ACOG encourages operative vaginal delivery

The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) has updated its practice bulletin on forceps and ventouse deliveries. The authors note the considerable fall in the rate of such deliveries in recent years but state that there is still a place for operative delivery, including rotational mid-cavity delivery. They argue for increased use of operative vaginal delivery by well-trained obstetricians in the interests of both baby and mother.
