Controversy surrounds Stockholm’s new private maternity hospital


An independent maternity hospital, BB Sophia, delivering 4,000 births a year, has just opened (April 2014) in Stockholm. The second such maternity hospital in the city, it receives funding per birth from the government, so care remains free to patients.  Its opening was greeted with hostility from opponents of private health care, but hailed by supporters of diversity in health care provision.
