Obstetric violence in France?

In July, Marlène Schiappa, the French Secretary of State for Gender Equality, claimed that the episiotomy rate was too high, quoting a rate of 75%, and set up an enquiry into obstetric violence.  Israel Nisand, the President of the French College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists suggested she didn’t know what she was talking about – he quoted a rate of 26% - and accused her of abusing the obstetric profession for political ends. The report of the enquiry into obstetric violence is awaited.
